Palfish - All about lives...

Palfish LIVES - What are they? How do I do one?

All your questions answered....

If you have a facebook account you are probably aware of the fairly recent phenomenon of a 'facebook live'. Basically you set it up and people can watch you and comment in real time. Palfish LIVES are based on the same concept.

The difference is the purpose.

Why should I do LIVES?

The most important part of getting bookings on Palfish is your marketing. The best marketing involves finding ways for you to be 'SEEN' and 'HEARD' by parents, students and the sales staff at Palfish.

LIVES are a great way to accomplish this!

How do I do a LIVE?

Before you create your own I suggest you watch a few popular LIVES to get ideas!

When you are on your Palfish app. the homescreen will look like this:

To watch other LIVES click on the 'Live hall' it will take you to this screen:
At the top you can see 'LIVES' that are happening right now! Click on one and enter the classroom if you like. (They will see your name when you enter, but they won't when you leave).

At the top you can see a list of categories (Pronunciation, IELTS etc.) Click on the 'KID' category.

Because we are marketing to children, we want to create our LIVES in this category, and watch and get ideas from this category too!

You will see all the LIVES for the day listed, find one that interests you and click on it: (You can also scroll down to previous LIVES and watch replays - I like to check out the popular ones!)
When you click enroll free you will be enrolled in the class, you will get a notification when it's about to start. It doesn't mean you HAVE to watch. It's just nice to support other teachers.

Once you've watched a few and have an idea, it's time to create!

From your homescreen click the little blue camera called 'Live':
You will see all your past LIVES (if you have any), and there is an option to do a 'Test live' at the top:
It's great to enter the 'Test live' and have a play around! It will help you become familiar with things!

You can see what the camera will be looking at (Here's me in my front room). You can see the big green start button in the middle - this is what you click when you're ready to go. (The recording from your LIVE that is available to replay will begin from when you press start!)

Up the top right you can see how many people are watching.

You press the 'x' to leave.

Down the bottom there are a number of options - the one you will use the most is the 'Whiteboard' option that I have circled in RED with the MASSIVE arrow - this is what you press if you want to pull up pictures. It will make you small and the picture big.

Once you've had a play it's time to create, back at this page you click the 'plus' symbol in the top right corner.
You will then see a screen to fill in all your LIVE details:

  • Title: Make it catchy, use emojis, you have limited characters so make it to the point! (Something as simple as 'Story Time' is fine!)
  • Category: We always want to create LIVES in the 'kid category - here is where you select it.
  • Start: You select when you would like your LIVE to begin - you can do one in 10 minutes or in a few days time.
  • Duration: I always select 15min and then if I go over it's fine. If you're reading short story it is also fine to finish early and leave. One of mine went for 7min!
  • Price: Set to ZERO - if you try to charge for the LIVE no-one will come!
  • Question Price: Also ZERO
  • Intro: You have a minimum amount of characters you need to reach here so fill in the details of what you'll be doing - use dot points, emojis and make it interesting, sell yourself!
  • Cover: Eye catching and bright is the key!
  • Pictures: Always upload something! If you're reading a story you can upload pics from the book here. When I did a tour of the Zoo I uploaded some internet images of the Zoo to peak interest.
You can access any pictures on your phone during your LIVE - if you want them to roll in a slide show fashion then upload them when you create the LIVE. Also take the pictures in portrait mode or they will upload sideways!

Now it's time to press CREATE in the top right corner and you're good to go!

It will give you the option to share your LIVE - your LIVE will AUTOMATICALLY share to ALL your followers, trust me!

You don't need to share it further - you may wish to share to your regular student group if you have one.

You can't share to moments, but if you have enough time create a moment advertising your LIVE if you like.

Please avoid sharing to groups that aren't about LIVES - the owners get cranky, and it's annoying!

When doing your LIVE you don't have to be in your classroom, you also don't have to be wearing blue. A popular Mentor's best live was a tour of her Fridge! Think outside the box 😁.

It helps to do LIVES in 'Peak times'. But i've done one at 10am BJT and even though only a few watched at the time, many watched later.

Don't delete your LIVES, keep them there for parents to enrol in and check you out. Sales staff may also look.

Don't panic if no-one is watching LIVE - I had a story time with me and the mandatory Palfish team member (One will attend all your LIVES to make sure everything is appropriate). Since then i've had 20 people watch it! Do your best no matter what.

When you're first starting out try to do 1 LIVE a week!
